Looking Back: Florida
By: Brandon Mellor, Seminoles.com

In a situation like this, there’s really no better lede than a few numbers: 31-7.

That’s the score of last year’s Florida State-Florida showdown and by finishing with the 31 on that fateful day in November, the Seminoles put to rest the Gator demons that had haunted the program for what seemed like a never-ending span of years.

Six straight seasons of frustration and questioning the direction of the program while unfairly comparing the two schools came to an abrupt halt to the jubilation of Seminole Nation.

Looking back, it’s easy as fans to be thankful that the streak was busted. But think about it from the perspective of Christian Ponder, Rodney Hudson, Ochuko Jenije, Ryan McMahon and all of the other FSU seniors that had to deal with the scary thought of possibly never beating UF.

The manner in which the Seminoles won the game is especially special.

Seven different players caught passes from Ponder and sophomore Rodney Smith led the way with 79 yards receiving.

Like Greg Reid’s hit on South Carolina’s Marcus Lattimore just over a month later, sophomore Nick Moody’s menacing tackle on Jeff Demps will never be forgotten.

The underclassmen helped send the upperclassmen out in style.

After suffering through an unfortunate streak to their most bitter rivals, the Seminoles’ win could prove be the start of a brand new string of games that features FSU coming out on top. Maybe five years from now, UF fans will be clamoring for a “W” much like their Florida State counterparts were in 2010.

Until then, keep enjoying the three numbers that were appropriate enough to both start and end this article: 31-7.
