1998 Cross Country Season Recap

The 1998 cross country season got off to a good start for the
men’s
team as they opened with a win at the West Florida Invitational. At the
Birmingham Classic, the men placed 5th among 21 teams while the women
were
9th in a 23-team field. Both teams had impressive outings on their home
course with the men and women taking team titles at the Seminole
Invitational.

Aaron Scheer, the top runner for the men’s squad all
season
long, again set the pace at the ACC Championships and at the NCAA South
Regional – where he was 22nd overall in a field of over 150 competitors
and
helped the ‘Noles to a 9th place finish out of 23 teams.

The women,
whose
top five consisted entirely of underclassmen, got a 36th place effort
from
sophomore Cynthia Campbell and placed 13th of 23 teams at the NCAA South
Regional.

With the return of the majority of the men’s team returning
and
a women’s team that will boast 4 juniors and a senior next fall, expect a
move up the ACC and NCAA Regional standings for Coach Irving’s troops.
