TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – As the beginning of the 2011 season nears for the Florida State softball team, there are several promotions that will be utilized to further enhance the fan experience.
“Our marketing program does such a great job of promoting our sport and student- athletes,” head coach Lonni Alameda said. “We are all very excited for some of our sponsors that have jumped in and offered some great deals on game days. We are going to create a fun atmosphere for everyone that comes out on game days. When you mix the hard-working athletes with chances for free or discounted food and great game day entertainment, you can’t go wrong.”
The Seminoles have a wide range of scheduled promotions for the upcoming year, as well as several other in-game specials. Beginning with the season opener on Friday afternoon against UNC Greensboro, Alameda, her coaching staff and student-athletes will host the first of two Seminole Softball Dugout Club socials at the Seminole Softball Complex. The other will occur following the 3 p.m. game against Wisconsin on March 5. Fans looking to take part in the first social on Friday can do so at no cost, while the rest of the socials will incur a small fee.
Three other Dugout Club events are scheduled – an alumni and Florida State College of Women reunion on April 22 at the Varsity Club, a senior send-off dinner on April 23 and the senior game day in the regular-season home finale on April 24.
Fans will also have an opportunity to get an item signed by their favorite FSU softball player with “Autograph Sundays,” following each Sunday afternoon game. The Seminoles play six Sunday afternoon contests at JoAnne Graf Field this season – Feb. 13, Feb. 20, March 6, April 3, April 10 and April 24.
Next week, FSU hosts Florida A&M on Tuesday, Feb. 15, in what is deemed “Light up the park Night” where fans are provided glow sticks as a free giveaway. Parent’s Weekend occurs on March 5-6 as FSU takes on Wisconsin and Utah in the Big Ten/Mountain West/ACC Challenge.
The annual “Paint it Pink” game highlights the Seminoles’ doubleheader against Virginia Tech on April 2, where items such as pink t-shirts will be for sale. Pack the Park and Home Run Derby Day occurs the following game versus the Hokies.
The following Saturday against Virginia on April 9, all military members in the stands will be honored as part of Military Appreciation Day. The next game on Sunday features Youth Day, which is accompanied by a clinic after the noon contest against the Cavaliers.
On April 13, FSU will host a Luau Night against North Florida, with Hawaiian-themed promotions including a Hula-Hoop contest. The event is followed by senior/alumni weekend for the Maryland series on April 23-24.
Included in the Seminoles’ promotional schedule are several concession discounts. The first 100 fans for FSU’s 12:30 p.m. contest against Hofstra this Saturday will get free popcorn, and the final day of the Seminole Kickoff Classic on Sunday features $1 hot dogs. There will also be six other $1 dog days – Feb. 20, March 6, April 3, April 10 and April 24. The free popcorn promotion for the first 100 fans will also occur on Feb. 19, March 5, April 2, April 9 and April 23.
Free ice cream will be handed out on the April 10 game against Virginia as part of the ice cream social and youth clinic. The Luau Night contest on April 13 will include free pizza for FSU students.
FSU softball fans can look forward to more promotions that will occur nearly every inning. In the middle of the first frame, fans can answer softball questions as part of the PO’BOYS Seminole Trivia. In the top of the second, the new Circle K Base giveaway will be in full force, followed by the Mellow Mushroom Delivery of the Game in the middle of the second inning.
The third inning features the Seminole Power Inning, while the Garnet and Gold T-shirt Toss follows in the middle of the fourth. Finally, the Pocket Litter promotion will cap off the schedule during the top of the fifth.
