TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) –
The Florida State men’s golf team, which is currently ranked 19th nationally by GolfStat and 20th nationally by GolfWeek and Golf World Magazines, signed two outstanding prep golfers – Collin Engelhardt and Hank Lebioda – to National Letters of Intent during the November signing period. Both Engelhardt and Hank Lebioda are expected to challenge for playing time immediately upon their arrival for the fall 2012 semester.

“This is a recruiting class that we have been looking forward to for several years,” said head coach Trey Jones. “Both Collin and Hank have the potential to have great careers in the classroom and on the golf course at Florida State. They will represent Florida State well in every aspect of being a student- athlete.”

Interestingly, Engelhardt and Leboida are teammates at Trinity Prep in Winter Park, Fla. — one of the top high school golf programs in the state of Florida .

Engelhardt won the 1A State Championship in 2010, and also qualified for the 2010 Junior Amateur Championship. He was also standout on Trinity Prep’s highly successful basketball and golf team.

“Collin has shown he can compete at a high level,” said Jones. “He loves to compete and has no problem putting in hours of practice. I feel Collin’s strength will be his consistency. His determination and spirit will keep him competitive. Collin will not rest until he is competing with the best players in the country and we will give him that opportunity here at Florida State.”

Lebioda finished in a tie for ninth at the 2011 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship and finished in a tie for second at the 2011 AJGA Junior at Steelwood in Loxley, Ala. He was named Player of the Year by the Florida State Golf Association in 2010 and played in the 2010 U.S. Amateur.

“I first watched Hank play when he was 14-years-old and he happened to shoot 65 that day,” said Jones. “Hank’s strengths are his ball striking and his ability to make a great deal of birdies. He has high expectations of himself and what he wants to accomplish at Florida State. He has the talent and mentality to be our next freshman to win a college event.”

Florida State opens its 2012 spring schedule at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., Feb. 11-12.
