TALLAHASSEE, FL — The 21st ranked Florida State Lady Seminole Softball
team swept Georgia Southern 6-2, 3-1 Sunday at Lady Seminole Field to
improve their record to 4-0 on the season.
In the first game, freshman pitcher Jennifer White started on the mound
and gave up one run on two hits while striking out five while bettering her
mark to 2-0. White, who also had the only FSU double of the game, was
relieved by Corrie Williams in the top of the fifth. Williams gave up
three hits and one earned run in her three innings of work. Neither
Seminole pitcher walked a batter.
Offensively, the Seminoles were aided by four stolen bases and three
Georgia Southern errors. Kristy Hull and Christy Cercedes led the way
going 2-2 and 2-3 at the plate respectively.
In the second game, Stacey Venable went the distance giving up only one
earned run on six hits to improve her record to 2-0 on the season.
Cercedes powered the Seminoles again going 2-3 and also driving two of the
three Florida State runs.
“Overall, I thought we were a little sloppy running the bases today,”
said head coach Dr. JoAnne Graf. “I was pleased with the team’s play, but
we still have little things we need to work toward in order to improve
For the day, the freshman Cercedes led all players going 4-6 with two
RBIs, a run scored and an RBI.
Florida State takes the field again on February 13th against Oregon at
1:00 p.m. in the first round of the Arizona State Softball Coke Classic.
