Grubka added two game-winning goals to her credit to aid the No. 1 Seminoles to two shutouts last week. The team blanked No. 22 Florida, 1-0, during which Grubka headed in the only goal Florida State would need to top the Gators at home for the first time since 2006.
The Melbourne, Fla., native capped the weekend using her head again to net the game winner against College of Charleston off a corner kick late in the first half.
At defender, she also played an integral role in FSU’s defense that limited Florida and College of Charleston to a combined seven shots on goal. All of this nabbed Grubka her first career ACC Player of the Week award.
Grubka is the first Seminole to be recognized as Player of the Week by the NSCAA since October 28, 2009 when Ella Stephan won the award after scoring the game-winner at home against North Carolina in double-overtime.
It was a good week for the sophomore defender as she was named Player of the Week by the ACC, TopDrawerSoccer.com and CollegeSoccer360.com.
The Disney Soccer/NSCAA National Players of the Week are announced every Wednesday. One male and one female player is selected by a committee from nominations submitted by NCAA Division I conferences. Notre Dame’s Ryan Finley was honored on the men’s side.
The winners will also be recognized during the NSCAA College Game of the Week broadcast on FOX Soccer.
Other women’s nominees included senior midfielder/forward Paige Goeglein (Middle Tennessee), senior goalkeeper Mellissa Hutto (Kennesaw State), senior goalkeeper Caitlin Landsman (Marist), senior midfielder Mallory Schaffer (William & Mary), junior goalkeeper Katie Merson (Georgia Southern), junior defender Kat Ludlow (Baylor), sophomore forward Melissa Frederick (Iona), sophomore midfielder Emily Hartshorn (Middle Tennessee), sophomore midfielder Erin Yenney (Louisville), sophomore forward Taylor Uhl (Minnesota), freshman forward Tara Ballay (Rider) and freshman forward Ashley Williams (Kansas).
Grubka and the Seminoles return to action this weekend with a home match against Cal State Fullerton on Friday, September 7 at 7:00 p.m., followed by an away match at Arkansas on Sunday, September 9 at 2:00 p.m. EST.
