Sept. 19, 2005
Senior linebacker A.J. Nicholson was named the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week after helping to lead Florida State to a 28-17 victory at Boston College on Saturday. Nicholson was credited with a career-high 19 tackles, including 17 solo stops. He had two first half interceptions, the first of which he returned 19 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the game. The second pick was returned 40 yards and set up FSU’s second touchdown. The 19 tackles were the most for a Seminole since Marvin Jones totaled 21 stops against Virginia Tech in 1990. Nicholson also had a tackle for a loss and a pass break-up in the win over the Eagles as the Florida State defense held an opponent scoreless in the second half for the third straight game.
