TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Head coach Jennifer Hyde announced the addition of two new athletes to the Florida State women’s tennis team. Kerrie Cartwright (Nassau, Bahamas) and Laurence Porry (Fort de France, Martinique) will join the Seminoles for the 2012-13 season.

“We are really excited for both Kerrie and Laurence to join our program in the coming months,” Hyde said. “Not only do they both come with a wealth of playing experience and exposure, but they both bring solid personalities and character to the table as well.”

As a freshman at Tyler Junior College, Cartwright was crowned the NJCAA champion in singles and doubles in 2012. In addition to her individual triumphs, Cartwright helped capture the third-straight and 16th overall team title for the Apache.

Cartwright has been exposed to the international stage since 2008, as she’s competed in four Fed Cups for the Bahamas. In her 12 singles matches at the event Cartwright has posted a 7-5 record in singles, with six of those wins coming in the main draw.

Porry contributed to putting the State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota women’s tennis team on the map as they were runner-up to Tyler Community College at the NJCAA championships in just their first year of existence. She was named as the FCCAA Tennis Player of the Year as the Manatee’s won the 2012 state title.

While playing in six international juniors tournaments during 2007-2008 in singles, Porry reached the championship round in three of those contests.

“I expect that they both will have an immediate impact on our team,” Hyde said. “I am thrilled for the future of our program with their addition to our roster.”

Porry will join the Seminoles as a junior, while Cartwright will enter her sophomore year.
