TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Florida State University softball student-athletes Shayla Jackson and Sarah Hamilton earned a sweep of this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference player and pitcher of the week awards, the conference announced today.

Jackson, a junior right fielder from Pembroke Pines, Fla., had a career week that saw her go 15-for-23 (.652) with one home run, 13 RBIs, four doubles and five runs scored in six games. Her second career round-tripper came in the form of a grand slam to help defeat Boston College in game one of a doubleheader on April 16. In that same game, Jackson went 4-for-4 with five RBIs and a double.

In FSU’s doubleheader sweep over the Eagles last weekend, Jackson finished the day going 7-for-8 with eight RBIs. She became the first Seminole this season to record four base hits in one game, and is the second FSU softball player to drive in five runs in one contest this year. Jackson also added an outfield assist in the second game of the B.C. doubleheader.

For the week, Jackson registered a .627 on-base percentage and a .957 slugging percentage. Overall, she leads the Seminoles with a .364 batting average, 26 RBIs, 13 doubles and 77 total bases. Jackson is the team leader with 18 multiple-hit games this season, and is currently on a seven-game hit streak.

Hamilton’s seventh career ACC Pitcher of the Week honor is also her fourth this season and second in a row. This week, Hamilton went 3-0 against Mercer, North Florida and Boston College, allowing one earned run on just seven hits while striking out 38 in 21 innings pitched.

Hamilton etched her name atop the Seminole softball record books when she struck out her 940th career batter at B.C. on Saturday, breaking the school’s all-time mark of 939 held by Tiffany McDonald. The Tallahassee native picked up three double-digit strikeout performances, and held the opposition to a miniscule .100 batting average.

Hamilton now ties Georgia Tech’s Kristen Adkins for the most pitcher of the week awards this season by the ACC.

This week marks FSU’s second sweep of the ACC weekly awards this season. For the week of Feb. 21, Hamilton and sophomore Tiffani Brown were named conference pitcher and player of the week, respectively.
The Seminoles host their regular-season home finale this weekend beginning with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. against Maryland on Saturday at JoAnne Graf Field. The final game occurs Sunday at noon. All three games are part of senior weekend, where six FSU seniors will be honored before and after the Sunday contest.
