STANFORD, Calif. – After defeating Duke’s Joey Atas and Jonathan Stokke twice during the season, the Seminoles’ No. 11-ranked team of Ytai Abougzir and Chris Westerhof fell in three sets during the Round of 16 at the 2006 NCAA Doubles Championship Friday evening.
Westerhof, a senior from Durban, South Africa, concluded his career as a Seminole and will forever leave his mark on the program; he is the FSU’s al-time doubles leader.
As a pair, Abougzir (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Westerhof ended their first season together with an impressive 21-10 record.
Abougzir and Westerhof got things started out right after winning the first set 6-3. However, Atas and Stokke stormed back with 6-1, 6-4 wins to advance in the NCAA Tournament.
