BLACKSBURG, Va. — The No. 23 Florida State softball team will open up Atlantic Coast Conference Championship play Friday in Blacksburg, Va. against Maryland.
The matchup between the No. 3-seeded Seminoles (41-15, 12-9 ACC) and No. 6-seeded Terrapins (33-21, 8-11) begins at noon and will serve as the first game of the three-day league tournament.
If FSU can earn the victory over Maryland, it will then play the winner of Virginia-Virginia Tech on Saturday at 1 p.m. The conference championship game is Sunday at 1 p.m.
The ‘Noles took the regular-season series against the Terrapins in College Park, Md. 2-1 in early April. FSU earned wins of 2-0 and 3-2 in a doubleheader on April 3 before falling 6-2 in the final game.
In those three ballgames, true freshman third baseman Tiffani Brown paced the Seminoles with five hits in nine at-bats for a .556 batting clip. She also added two RBIs.
Senior star Carly Wynn batted .364 over the course of that weekend and registered one RBI and four hits.
Florida State enters the postseason looking to get one step further than last year. In 2009, FSU made it all the way to the conference title game before falling to Georgia Tech.
