Notes `N Quotes
“It was nice to get a win and finish off a match. We have been putting ourselves in a situation to win and have been unable to take advantage of it down the stretch. Tonight we came from behind in game three so hopefully this will be a step in the right direction to change the tide of this season. We continue to be led on offense by Rust, Scott and Thompson and Jessica Skower is doing a nice job of balancing the offense.” – FSU Coach Todd Kress
after the win over NC State
“It is a huge match for us. We are both pretty evenly matched and not only is it instate rival but ACC rival as well.” – Setter Jessica Skower on the match against Miami
The last time Florida State beat Miami was on Oct. 2, 2001, at home in three games. During the Todd Kress era, the Seminoles have faced the `Canes three times and two of those matches were five game losses.
Former 26-year FSU head coach Cecile Reynaud will be an analyst with Ryan Pensy for tonight’s radio broadcast.
Setter Zrinka Tomic is expected to miss her ninth straight match tonight (fracture).
Florida State junior setter Jessica Skower has emerged as one of the top players in the Atlantic Coast Conference as of late. Since league play has gone underway, the native of Naples, Fla., has recorded an ace in five straight matches and ranks third in the league in serving with 0.50 aces per game. Furthermore, she also ranks sixth in the league in assists with 11.96 per contest. If that’s not enough, she and teammate Gabrielle Rivera lead the team with 41 total blocks on the season. Now that’s what we call an all-around player!
While its record may not be up to par, one area FSU has excelled in this season is blocking where the Seminoles are even (2.49-2.49) in blocks per game with its opponents. In fact, this is the only statistical category the Seminoles do not trail its opponents in. Freshman Gabrielle Rivera and Jessica Skower have 41 total blocks on the year followed by sophomore Makini Thompson (38), Lauren Scott (36), Kristen Rust (34) and Andreza Santos (23). Thompson and Skower lead the way with eight and nine block solos, respectively.
