TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – Florida State sprinter Maurice Mitchell has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Performer of the week, league officials announced Tuesday.
Mitchell paced a field of 24 at the Florida Relays this past weekend to claim top honors in the 200-meter dash invite.
The junior from Kansas City, Mo. competed in the event against both collegiate and professional sprinters. He clocked a time of 20.36, which is currently the fastest in the entire world.
“Maurice continues to distinguish himself as one of the finest sprinters in America,” FSU head coach Bob Braman. “We’re proud that he’s a Seminole.”
Next up for Mitchell and the ’Noles is a busy weekend. Florida State hosts the Seminole Invite Friday and Saturday, while part of the squad will compete at the Texas Relays.
On April 9, the team competing at home will sport pink ribbons as they host Paint it Pink. T-shirts will be available on site on Saturday with a minimum $10 donation and all donations will benefit the Sharon Ewing Walker Breast Health Center and Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
