The Seminoles are coming off a 107-87 loss at No. 4 Maryland on Wednesday. Ron Hale led FSU with 22 points…At 5-3 in ACC play, Florida State is still tied with North Carolina for third place. The Seminoles’ 5-3 record in their first trip around the ACC marks the program’s second best record after one trip through in its eight seasons in the league. The 1992-93 team went 6-2 in the first half…In his last six games, Hale is averaging 21.5 points. He has broken the 20-point barrier in five of those games and is tied for the ACC lead in scoring in conference games at a 20.6 clip…FSU has played the nation’s most difficult schedule and is ranked 23rd in the country, according to the most recent RPI report…Terrell Baker is averaging 16.4 points in his last five games on 28-of-55 shooting (50.9 percent) and 3.8 steals. He leads the ACC in thefts and needs 24 more to move into FSU’s all-time top 10 despite playing just two years at the school.
The Cavaliers are coming off a 64-55 win over Virginia Tech on Wednesday. Freshman forward Chris Williams led Virginia with 17 points, 13 rebounds and four blocked shots, his fourth double-double of the season…Williams leads UVa and ranks third in the ACC in scoring at 17.8 points per game. He is bidding to become the first freshman to lead the ACC in scoring since Mark Price of Georgia Tech did at 20.3 points per game during the 1982-83 season…Sophomore point guard Donald Hand is averaging 16.3 points after averaging just 4.7 per game last year…The win over Virginia Tech was just the Cavaliers’ second in their last eight games. UVa has lost two straight in the ACC and 12 consecutive league road games.
Saturday’s game marks the 16th meeting between Florida State and Virginia. The Cavaliers hold an 8-7 lead in the all-times series, which dates back to Jan. 4, 1992 (FSU’s first ACC home game)…The Seminoles have won three consecutive games in the series, including a 72-69 come-from-behind win at Virginia in the ACC opener for both teams back on Dec. 1…The game marks the start of the second half of ACC play for both teams…Florida State is just 3-4 against the Cavs in the Leon County Civic Center…Nine of the 15 meeting have been decided by six points or less or in overtime.
