April 22, 2005

CARY, N.C. –
After an exciting first match at the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament, Florida State University couldn’t pull off the big upset to get into the semifinals. Despite winning the doubles point, the No. 36 Seminoles couldn’t hang onto the lead as sixth-ranked Georgia Tech prevailed 4-1 on Friday (April 22) at the Cary Tennis Center.

For now, Florida State concludes the year at 11-11 overall, while the Yellow Jackets improved to 17-3. The Seminole now wait for an at-large big into the NCAA Tournament.

One of the strengths of the team this year, the Seminoles got out of the gate with the first point of the morning. Getting the first victory was the tandem of Roxanne Clarke (Cape Town, South Africa) and Amberly Tantee (Dana Point, Calif.) as they beat Dasha Potapova and Lyndsay Shosho 8-5 at number two. Wrapping up the point was Tapiwa Marobela (Gabrone, Botswana) and Miranda Foley (Cambridge, England) as they took down Whitney McCray and Kelly Anderson 8-6 at number three to secure the first point.

Unfortunately that would be the only point that the Seminoles would get during the rest of the contest. Georgia Tech picked up its first marker when Alison Silverio beat Foley 6-0-, 6-0 at number four. Giving the Rambling Wreck their first lead of the morning was Kacie Anson as she beat Tantee 6-1, 6-2 at number six.

The Yellow Jackets grabbed their third point when Potapova beat Clarke 6-2, 6-3 in the second spot. Finishing off the match was Shosho with her 6-4, 6-1 triumph against Marobela at number five.
