Diary – Day 1 Morning:
The first morning at Pinehurst was all about getting a feel for the links. After a delicious breakfast with FSU athletics director Randy Spetman, Becky Spetman and former FSU quarterback Danny Kanell, the rest of the Seminoles.com crew and I met Manuel and Jenkins in the immaculate lobby.
We then made our way over to the driving range at Pinehurst where Manuel and Jenkins took pictures of the view, the clubhouse and the hall of fame walk that takes you to the pro shop and out on to the driving range.
Once on the range, Manuel got a quick feel for his clubs and hit some absolute bombs and some nice shots with his irons. You think he can throw a tight spiral? Imagine what the Seminoles’ star signal-caller could do if he devoted his full time to golf? Yikes.
Jenkins, who doesn’t play much golf, got in the action and hit some real nice shots too.
Soon thereafter, Kanell came by our group and he and Manuel talked about golf, life and football. It was a really cool sight seeing a former FSU quarterback and a current one standing together overlooking the driving range. It’s an elite fraternity and both men are proud members.
We concluded the morning with a few last golf shots before both Manuel and Jenkins went back to their hotel room. They both have a big day ahead of them where they will meet with the print, TV and radio media that has flocked to North Carolina to hear their thoughts on the upcoming season.
Seminoles.com is part of that media contingency and we will have more content on the only official athletics website of Florida State than you an find anywhere else on the Internet. So stay tuned!
