Sept. 11, 2004

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. –
Florida State’s Matt Adcock and Adam Wallace are tied for 19th in the individual standings with identical 36-hole totals of 145 after the first day of competition in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges Golf and Country Club. The Seminoles, who shot the fourth best team score of the second round, are tied for 11th place in the team standings heading into Sunday’s third and final round.

Oklahoma, ranked 18th in the nation by Golfweek Magazine, holds a two stroke lead over second ranked Clemson who were tied for the lead in the team standings after the first two rounds. The Sooners posted a 282 team score in the second round to rally past TCU and Clemson who led the event after the first 18 holes. Anthony Kim of Oklahoma, who carded identical rounds of 68, finished the day at four under par and is the clubhouse leader.

Adcock (Apopka, Fla.) carded a two-under par 70 in the second round after finishing the first 18 holes with a three-over par 75. He was nearly flawless in the second round as he played three holes at par, 14 at par and only one over par. Of the 36 holes he played during the day, he finished with only one double bogey and was not more than two strokes over par on any one hole. Adcock, who has earned five top-20 finishes during his career, was named the Seminoles’ team captain earlier this week.

Wallace (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) enjoyed one of the top days of his Seminole career. He carded an even-par 72 in round one and a one-over par 73 in the round two. Wallace’s 145 total tied his best ever score for 36 holes which he also earned during the Cleveland Golf Intercollegiate in the fall of 2002 and in the Gator Invitational in the spring of 2004. He begins play in the third and final round looking for the first top-20 individual finish of his career.

Newcomer Jonas Blixt (Nassjo, Sweden) played well during his first tournament and carded a two-under par 70 in the second round to total a 147 total for the 36 holes played Saturday. He birdied five of the 18 holes in the second round and finished as one of 20 players in the field who played the second round under par. Blixt played 28 of his 36 holes and even par or better during the first day of the first tournament of his collegiate career.

Sophomore Bradley Ruch (Louisville, Ky.) is tied for 64th while senior Mark Sestilio (Punta Gorda, Fla) is in 81st place heading in the third round. Ruch carded a one-over par 73 in the second round while Sestilio improved his scored by six strokes in the second round of play as compared to the first round.
