March 17, 2003

AIKEN, S.C. –
Florida State sophomore Matt Adcock is tied for eighth in the individual standings and the Seminole men’s golf team is in 11th place after the first round of the Cleveland Golf Collegiate Championship at the Palmetto Golf Club. The second round of the event, planned for Monday, was washed out by rain. The final round of 18 holes is scheduled to be played Tuesday with a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. The event has been shortened to a total of 36 holes over two rounds.

The College of Charleston leads the team standings with Texas-Arlington, Kansas and South Carolina-Aiken trailing the Cougars by three strokes. Florida State is only 12 strokes behind Charleston and seven strokes out of the top five in the team standings. Aaron Black of USC Aiken is the individual leader after the first round with a three-under par score of 68.

Adcock (Apopka, Fla.), who has been Florida State’s most consistent golfer this spring, is in a pack of 10 players who are tied for eighth with one-over par scores of 72. Adcock is only four strokes off the pace set by Black and only three strokes out of second place. He has now scored 72 or less in four consecutive rounds and is averaging a career-low 74.00 strokes in 10 rounds this spring. Adcock finished in a career-best tied for 11th-place at last week’s Seminole Intercollegiate in Tallahassee.

Junior Tim Vickers (Alpharetta, Ga.), who is competing in his third event of the spring, totaled a three-over par 74 and is among 11 players tied for 25th-place in the individual standings. Vickers’ score of 74 is tied for his second lowest score of his Seminole career. His low single-round score for the season is a 73 during the second round of the Gator Invitational.

Sophomore Rusty Mosley, who is competing in his second consecutive tournament as a member of the Seminoles’ starting five, is tied for 46th-place with a five over par score of 76. He has scored 76 or lower in all four of his rounds this spring. He is followed by freshman Adam Wallace (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) and sophomore Mark Sestilio (Punta Gorda, Fla.).
