Adcock Leads Seminole Men’s Golf Team At Gary Koch Intercollegiate

Oct. 11, 2004

TAMPA, Fla. –
Florida State senior Matt Adcock shot a two-over par 74 and is in a tie for 13th place in the individual standings of the Gary Koch/Cleveland Golf Intercollegiate at the Old Memorial Golf Course. The Seminoles are in a tie for 14th place in the team standings after the first 18 holes. The start of the first round was delayed because of rain. Though the second round of the scheduled 36 holes of play began Monday, the rain delay will not allow it to be completed as scheduled. The teams still on the course when darkness falls will finish the second round before beginning the third and final round Tuesday morning.

The rain wrecked havoc on the field with No. 1 ranked Florida finishing the first 18 holes with a score of 310 and only one place (three strokes) ahead of Florida State. The team leader, UCF, shot a 293 and holds a three stroke lead over second-place South Carolina. Stefan Wistorf of UCF holds the individual lead after the first round. He shot a four-under par 68 and was one of only five golfers in the 78-player field to shoot under par.

Adcock (Apopka, Fla.) carded a two-over par 74 as he shot a 37 on both the front and back nine. It marked the fifth time in seven rounds this fall that the Seminoles’ senior captain had shot a 74 or below. He shot a season-low and near career-low 69 in the third round of last week’s Mason Rudolph Invitational. Adcock entered the tournament as Florida State’s third leading golfer with a 73.00 stroke average in six rounds.

Sophomore Bradley Ruch (Louisville, Ky.) and freshman Song Jeon (Seoul, Korea) shot identical scores of 79 and are in a tie for 48th place in the individual standings. The 79 was most uncharacteristic for Ruch who entered the event with a 72.83 stoke average in the first two events of the fall season. Jeon, a freshman competing in his first collegiate event, played well on the front nine with a 38 and closed the round with a 41.

A second freshman, Jonas Blixt (Nassjo, Sweden), carded an 81 and senior Rusty Mosley (Vidalia, Ga.) an 83. Blixt led the Seminoles at their first tournament of the fall (The Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate) while Mosley entered the event as Florida State’s highest ranking golfer with a stroke average of 70.67. He finished the Mason Rudolph tournament with a four-under par score of 212.

Following this event, the Seminoles close out their fall season at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in Windermere, Fla., Oct. 25-26.
