Alden Serves It Up

Oct. 20, 2011

ATHENS, Ga. – On the first day of competition, redshirt-sophomore Brian Alden won both of his matches to advance to the main draw of the 2011 ITA/USTA Southeast Regionals on the campus of the University of Georgia at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. The Barrington, Ill., native did not get broken on serve in either of his matches.

“I thought he served real well today,” said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. “He didn’t get broken in a serve all day. I thought that was key in the match. He played well in very windy conditions today.”

In the first round of the qualifying draw, Alden defeated Erik Halaj of Stetson 6-4, 6-2 and then faced off with Eduardo Martinez of Jacksonville in which he won 6-4, 6-1. In tomorrow’s main draw bracket, he will face off against Levan Clark of Florida A&M at 2:30 p.m.

“I think I served well and played smart,” said Alden. “I was aggressive coming to the nets. I thought I did a good job of managing myself and taking my time while being positive. I just took my time on each serve and was confident on it.”

Play for the other members of the squad will begin tomorrow at 10 a.m. Check back to Seminoles.com for results from the tournament.
