All-America Westrup Leads Florida State At Bryan National Collegiate

BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C –
Florida State All-American Caroline Westrup carded an even par 72 and is tied for seventh in the individual standings and the Seminoles are tied for 13th in the team standings after the first round of the 10th Annual Bryan National Collegiate at the Bryans Park Champions Course. Westrup birdied two of her last four holes of the afternoon and will begin second-round play on Saturday only four strokes behind the individual leader.

The Seminoles are ranked 24th in this week’s Golf Week / NGCA Division I women’s poll.

Purdue, led by Stefanie Endstrasser’s two-under par score of 70, holds the team lead after the first round. The Boilermakers are one stroke ahead of North Carolina and three strokes ahead of Duke – the nation’s No. 1 ranked team. The Tar Heels are ranked 21st in this week’s Golf World / NGCA national poll. Jenna Pearson of South Carolina shot a four-under par 68 and holds the first round individual lead. She earned five birdies, 12 holes of par or better and only one bogie during her first 18 holes.

Westrup (Ahus, Sweden) closed her round well as she played the final 10 holes of the first round at two-under par. She was two over with bogies on the No. 16 and No. 2 holes after her first eight holes. Westrup’s first round score of 72 marks the third consecutive event that she has carded a 72 in the first round – she has earned one championship and two third place finishes in those events. For the spring, she averages 73.8 strokes in her five first rounds and averages 71.8 strokes in her reaming rounds.

The Seminoles’ second ranked golfer in junior Whitney Brummett (Eureka, Mo.) who carded a five-over par 77 in the first round. She earned 14 holes at par or better with only four holes at or under bogie. Brummett is Florida State’s second ranking golfer this spring with a 76.11 scoring average. Junior Whitney Wright (Rockingham, N.C.), who is plying in her home state, turned in a six-over par 78 and is tied for 51st in the individual standings.

The tournament continues with an 11 a.m. shotgun start Saturday and concludes with another 11 a.m. shotgun start Sunday.
