Tallahassee, Fla. – The Florida State track and field team added another name to the NCAA East Regional qualifiers list as well as bettered a mark of a previous qualifier. Senior All-American Dorian Scott (Springfield, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) won the shot put event with a regional qualifying throw of 61’2″ (18.64m). Fellow thrower Andrew Diakos (Naples, Fla./Barron-Collier) also secured a position at the NCAA East Regional meet with a hammer event win, throwing 193’2″ (58.89m) in the garnet division, a mark just two feet short of his personal best throw. Diakos qualified in the shot at the Snowbird Invitational.
Junior Kate Purcell (West Point, Pa./Southern Illinois-Edwardsville) won her second javelin competition of the season, leading the pack with a distance of 130’5″ (39.76m). Freshman Erin Voss (Port Charlotte, Fla./Charlotte) finished in fourth place with a throw of 109’1″ (33.24m) while fellow rookie Heather Leblanc (Live Oak, Fla./Suwannee) was fifth, recording a mark of 90’11” (27.71m). Voss also competed in the hammer throw, throwing 126’8″ (38.62m) for tenth place in the garnet division
Sophomore Lindsey Nelson (Jacksonville, Fla./Mandarin) threw 45’10 (13.97m) in the shot put event, taking second place in the garnet division.
Freshman Matt Frith (Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles) was third in the discus event in the heptathlon, recording a mark of 97’2″ (29.63m).
