TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – For the second straight year Anca Dumitrescu advanced to the championship match of the Lady Seminole Fall Classic. Dumitrescu will face Jaime Wong of Georgia Tech in the finals. The doubles tandem of Daniela Gheorghe and Beth Lawrence will compete in the B Draw championship on Sunday against Georgia Tech’s Maria Nieto and Catherine Gunn.
Dumitrescu, the number one seed of the tournament, dominated her opponents on Saturday to advance to the championship match of the Singles A Draw. Dumitrescu defeated Amy Trefethen of Kentucky (6-3, 4-6, 6-3) and Georgia Tech’s Gunn (6-1, 6-2) to advance. The 4-6 set loss to Trefethen has been Dumitrescu’s only set loss of the tournament.
In the Singles C Draw FSU’s Natalie Tirapelli fell 6-3, 3-6, 3-6 in semifinal action to Annelies Schenk of Georgia Tech. In the finals round of the C draw, it will be an all Georgia Tech battle, as Annelies Schenk will face Maria Nieto.
In doubles action, Lawrence and Gheorghe took two victories by a score of 8-6 to advance into the finals of the Doubles B Draw. The duo downed Central Florida’s Westin/Fernanez and Stough/Petrisko of Kentucky for their championship run.
The Lady Seminole Fall Classic will conclude Sunday, Sept. 29th at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center as the singles finals begin at 9:00 a.m. with doubles finals to follow.
