Honolulu, Hawai’i – Four Seminoles won a pair of matches on Wednesday as Florida State finished 10-4 on the day in the Rainbow Warrior Classic at the University of Hawai’i. Over the tournament’s first two days, the Seminoles lead Nebraska and Hawai’i with 26 total wins against seven losses.
Starting the day with singles play, freshman Aziz Dougaz remained perfect in his young FSU career with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Nebraska’s Dusty Boyer, who was ranked in the fall’s preseason ITA rankings. Senior Michael Rinaldi also stayed perfect in Hawai’i with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Felix Albert of Hawai’i, while Dougaz and Rinaldi paired up for an 8-6 doubles win.
Senior Marco Nunez, fresh off being ranked No. 77 in the ITA’s first poll, won a 6-4, 6-3 decision against Kai Wehnelt of Hawai’i, and in doubles teamed with Benjamin Lock for an 8-2 win over Nebraska.
Terrance Whitehurst won his second singles match of the week, a 6-0, 6-2 win over Fabian Woehrl of Hawaii. In doubles, he paired with brother Terrell for an 8-5 win over Woehrl and Eric Kenneth.
Jose Gracia, Parker Evertsen, Jack Haffey, and Terrell Whitehurst tallied one win on the day.
