Anquan Boldin Chat Wrap

Oct. 2, 2002

Anquan Boldin: I am here and ready to go!

Fort Rucker: Do you feel, despite the loss to louisville, that FSU can contend for the National Championship this year? Will Chris Rix Break out of his slump?

Anquan Boldin: Yes. I think so. Last week was very unfortunate but we still have a great chance to play for the national title.

Tallahassee: Anquan, what is your response to most media implying that Florida State isn’t the dominant team of years past? Seth Lawson

Anquan Boldin: I look at it as a joke! Basically we are still the most dominant teams in the ACC and one of the most dominant in the nation.

Dallas: Anquan do you still have confidence in your quarterback Chris Rix? Or do you fell like everyone else, that he is only a sophomore, and that he is still learning?

Anquan Boldin: Of course. Why shouldn’t we? Chris is in the drivers seat right now and we are all behind him.

Jim (New York): It was obvious in the Louisville game that your defender was an instigator in some way, since personal fouls are out of character for you. How much do opposing players really taunt each other during the game? Also, know that Nole fans are with you, rain or shine, win or lose.

Anquan Boldin: They taunt us a lot. They try to get us involved in some verbal matches. The guy spit in my face and without thinking I just reacted. I wish I could take it back.

Scott (Green Bay): Growing up, what players did you look up to and why?

Anquan Boldin: Walter Payton. I just loved his attitude. He had a never say die attitude and he played his heart out every game.

Kris (Lake City, Fl.): Is the team nervous about another possible “rain game”?

Anquan Boldin: I think the rain prevented us from doing some things we wanted to but we aren’t worried about playing in the rain again. We will be prepared.

Linda Fort Pierce: Hello Mr. Bolden, my question is: Will you and Mr. Rix ever use the play that Peter Warrick and Chris Weinke used wherein Weinke took the snap, handed off to Warrick and Warrick passed? That was a great play that you should be able to do with ease.

Anquan Boldin: We might. We have it in the gameplan but the opportunity hasn’t presented itself.

Patrick (Washington, DC): Hi Anquan– The Seminole nation wants to know whether you’re considering leaving early, or whether you’ve got unfinished business for the next two years. We’d love it if you stuck around! And do stay healthy!

Anquan Boldin: Of course I have unfinished business! I have not intentions of leaving early. I want to stick around and help this team as much as possible.

Carrie: Do you think FSU has what it takes to run the table and win out this year?

Anquan Boldin: I think we have the talent to do that. It will be a challenge considering our challenge. But we can certainly do it.

Matt (Charleston): Are you all concerned about the much improved Tiger defense which is ranked atop the ACC?

Anquan Boldin: We are not worried about them at all. We had a good week of preparation. We have guys who are very eager to make some plays againts that defense.

Robert-Student At FSU: HI-Anquan whats the mood in the locker room coming into Thursday Nights Game??

Anquan Boldin: It’s the same as it always is .. the morale is very high. We are very confident as we always are. After a loss, everyone thought we were down but we aren’t. The morale is very high.

New Orleans, La.: A lot of people compare you to Peter Warrick. Could you be capable of having an impact in the kicking game?

Anquan Boldin: I don’t pay too much attention to that. I just overlook it. As far as me making a contribution to the kicking game, the coaches don’t really let me, not sure why. I guess they think it would take away from my production.

Kirby (San Diego): hey anquan… i’m a big fan. how do you think this team is different from last year’s? how has chris rix improved at qb this year? best of luck the rest of the way… you guys are awesome!

Anquan Boldin: I think this team is much more mature. Last year we had a lot of questions and weren’t sure where we were going. But the morale is really up and we still feel we can win it all.

Rix has come full circle and knows the offense much better. He is a coach out on the field.

Marice (New York): is it hard to focus on Clemson when you have Miami next week?

Anquan Boldin: It’s not hard to stay focused. After losing last week, it’s easy to focus on this game. If we lose this game, the Miami game won’t be as important so we have to stay focused.

Luis (Lake Worth, FL): Hey Anquan, I went to Saint Andrew’s in Boca and one great memory from high school was how Pahokee always beat up on us in basketball. I have always been a big FSU fan and I wish you and the squad luck in getting back on track to beat ND, UM, and UF. My question is, will there be more plays directed your way against Clemson to take advantage of your athletic abilities?

Anquan Boldin: There might be. The coaches are moving me around and working on some mismatches so you might see some of that tomorrow night.

Justin (Norfolk, VA): Anquan, how do you think Clemson’s defensive backs measure up to FSU’s receivers?

Anquan Boldin: We have a good receiving corp. all around. I don’t think they can match up man to man but they get some help from the LBs. It should be an interesting matchup for us.

Kevin(Tally): Do you think Miami needs a good beating? Can you guys please do this for me?

Anquan Boldin: Yeah, I think we can! We are capabale of matching up with them very well. We just have to execute.

J-Rob in O-town: Hey Quan, who’s your best friend on the team? Go NOLES!

Anquan Boldin: I have several .. Greg Jones is one.

Robert-Student At FSU: after months of rehab on your knee???? do you think your at 100% or even better

Anquan Boldin: I think I am 100 percent. I am wearing a brace just to be cautious but everything is going well. No swelling so that is a good sign.

Todd (Jax): Do you have the same metabolism as Greg Jones? That guy can eat.

Anquan Boldin: (Laughing) Nah! I don’t have a very high metabolism. I probably eat twice a day!

Ken (Orlando): We haven’t seen any trick plays in recent years because of the talent level. Does Bobby have a few surprises up his sleeve this year for the team?

Anquan Boldin: I think so. We practice that stuff every week you just have to get the opportunity to use it and so far we haven’t. But I know he has some stuff up his sleeve.

Thanks for the questions and for taking time to chat with me. I hope to see you all at the game tomorrow night. Take care.
