After playing Florida to open the season, Florida State plays host to Savannah State and Elon College in a pair of non-conference home games this week. Senior co-captain Antwuan Dixon reflects on the season opener against Florida and about playing home games in the Tallahassee Leon County Civic Center. He discussed the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, spending time with his teammates during the holiday season and playing at home to begin his senior season when he stopped by for his weekly diary with seminoles.com.
What Are You Thankful For?
“I am thankful for the gracious gifts of life. I am thankful for being here everyday, my family, my teammates and the support that our fans show us every day. I have been allowed to use a special gift to play basketball and I am thankful for that.”
Will You Be Able To Spend Time With Any Members Of Your Family On Thanksgiving?
“I unfortunately will not be able to spend time with my family during the Thanksgiving holiday. I am fortunate to be able to spend time with my teammates and our coaching staff who are very important to me. As the Christmas season approaches, my mother is gong to come to Tallahassee and I will be able to spend some special time with her. I will be very thankful to be able to spend time with my mother who I love very much.”
The Team Is Going To Serve Meals on Thanksgiving Day To Area Residents. How Does That Make You Feel?
“It makes me feel good to be able to serve meals to area residents on Thanksgiving Day. It gives us a chance to give back to the community that gives so much to us as a basketball team. Whenever we get a chance to do something good and kind, it touches my heart. We have a great program of being able to give back to the community here at Florida State and I am proud to play a part in a number or those programs. From our Champions Read program where we read to school-aged children to our annual visit to the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital at Christmas time, we are able to give back to the community all year long.”
What Does The Team Need To Improve On After Playing Florida?
“The main thing we need to improve on is taking care of the basketball. We had too many turnovers against Florida and we can’t expect to win games when we allow so many offensive opportunities to be lost. We also need to improve on not allowing ourselves to go through scoring droughts. We suffered through a number of droughts we missed too many shots and did not score at all. Once again, we can’t win games when we don’t score. Another improvement we need to make is on defense. We need to keep our opponents from getting open looks at the basket and giving them so many offensive opportunities.
How Much Are You Looking Forward To Playing A Home Game In The Civic Center?
“I’m looking forward to playing a home game in the Civic Center because I enjoy playing in front of our fans. At Florida, a small number of our most faithful fans were able to make that trip to Gainesville and we really appreciated that. I loved the atmosphere at Florida and hope that we can soon have the Civic Center and our fans as excited for our games. When we made big plays at Florida, we could hear our fans in Gainesville. I’m looking forward to making plays and hearing all of our fans at our home games. I always look forward to playing in a gym where all of the fans are cheering for us.”
What’s The Best Thing About Playing In The Civic Center?
“The best thing about playing in the Civic Center is that we are playing at home in front of our loyal fans. It gives us a sense that the fans are cheering for the Seminoles and our players and that they are behind us throughout the game. It’s a great feeling when everyone is cheering for you only.
