Asberg Tops Teammate Weber In Roberta Alison Classic Final

Sept. 19, 1999

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Florida State women’s tennis team wrapped
up their first fall tournament, bringing home a flight championship.
Senior Kia Asberg won in straight sets over teammate Ali Weber to claim the
Singles C tournament championship.

Asberg and Weber each played three matches to reach the finals.
Before playing Asberg, Weber had not lost a set in singles or doubles in
the entire tournament. In doubles, Weber teamed with sophomore Alida
Gallovits to play in the Doubles A competition. Weber and Gallovits
advanced to the finals before losing 9-8, 7-2 in the tiebreaker, to
Mississippi State’s Sloan and Soubis. It was the second year in a row that
Weber advanced to the finals of a doubles draw at the Roberta Alison Fall
Classic. In 1998, Weber and Asberg made the finals of the Doubles A Draw.

Asberg’s flight championship was the second singles flight
championship in the past two years for the Lady Seminoles at the Roberta
Alison Fall Classic. Last year junior Nanette Duxin captured the Singles A
championship.

The Lady Seminoles will return to action on October 1st at the
University of South Carolina Invitational in Columbia, S.C.
