TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Florida State assistant men’s tennis coach Nick Crowell will coach Team Florida at the USTA National 18s Team Championships from July 26-29, in Urbana-Champaign, Ill.
“It’s exciting for me and a great opportunity to work with some of the best young players in the country,” Crowell said. “Just to be around that team environment makes the tournament feel like college tennis.”
Formerly known as the Junior Davis Cup, the USTA National Team Championships follows a typical collegiate format. Each match consists of three doubles matches and six singles matches. A team will earn one point per singles match win and one point for winning two of three doubles matches. The first team to four points wins the match and advances to compete in the next round. Seventeen sections will be represented from across the country in the week long event.
“I think it gives a chance for the junior tennis players to get experience in a team format,” Crowell said. “I’m excited to represent Florida State at this tournament and hoping to win the event.”
The championships will be held on the campus of the University of Illinois at the Atkins Tennis Center.
