Aubone And Bowles Advance To Round Of 16 At ITA Mideast Tennis Regionals

Tallahassee, Fla.- Sophomore Jean-Yves Aubone and freshman Clint Bowles advanced to the round of 16 at the ITA Mideast Regionals in Charlottesville, Va. on Friday October 19.

Aubone (Miami, Fla.) won two grueling three set matches first beating Dominic Pagon of William & Mary 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-2 and then Maryland’s Andrew Orban 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Aubone will face North Carolina’s Benjamin Carlotti on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m.

Bowles (Tampa, Fla.) went the more conventional route winning both matches in straight sets, beating South Carolina’s Ivan Cressoni 6-1, 7-5 and Elon’s Damon Gooch 6-0, 6-4. Next up for Bowles is Clemson’s Rok Bizjak on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m.

Three other Seminoles didn’t fare as well on Friday. Senior Sam Chang (Young Ming, Taiwan lost in three sets to Virginia Tech’s Yoann Re 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, junior Maciek Sykut (Marathon, Fla.) was defeated by North Carolina State’s Nick Cavaday 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 and junior Chris Cloer (Brevard, N.C.) lost to Virginia’s Sarnam Singh 6-1, 6-3.

Aubone and Bowles also advanced to the round of 16 in doubles competition. The duo will square off Saturday afternoon with North Carolina’s Taylor Fogleman and Chris Kearney.
