GREENSBORO, N.C. – Florida State senior Jean-Yves Aubone, reigning ACC Player of the Year, has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week after scoring a pair of straight-set singles wins over players ranked among the nation’s Top 25 and playing a pair of doubles win over the nation’s 22nd-ranked team.
Playing at the No. 1 slot for the Seminoles, the 35th-ranked Aubone’s singles wins came against Rice’s 25th-ranked Bruno Rosa (7-5, 6-4) and Notre Dame’s 19th-ranked Casey Watt (6-2, 6-4).
Aubone also played alongside Clint Bowles as part of a doubles team that scored an 8-7 (5) upset win over Texas’ 22nd-ranked Ed Corrie and Kellen Damico on court two. The duo also posted a 9-7 victory over Notre Dame’s Tyler Davis and Niall Fitzgerald on Sunday.
With his singles victory on Friday against Rice’s Rosa, Aubone won his 147th career match to tie for 10th in career overall wins at Florida State. After two more wins on Sunday, the Miami native holds sole position of the 10th spot with 149 wins. Aubone is 12-3 in singles this season with all three of his losses coming to players ranked among the nation’s Top 10.
Next up for the Seminoles is a bout with rival Florida on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in Gainesville.
