TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ( – Junior Rachael Morgan of the Florida State University volleyball team has been named the American Volleyball Scouting Report Player of the Week, announced today by the 25-year recruiting service.

The talented right-side hitter played a big role in FSU’s impressive performances in the NCAA Tournament last weekend. Morgan made a return in the first round after missing nine of FSU’s last 11 matches with a foot injury, recording nine kills, five digs and four blocks in a four-set victory over Georgia Southern in Gainesville, Fla.

Morgan’s presence in the lineup against No. 1 seed Florida was also beneficial, helping the Seminoles challenge the Gators in undoubtedly their toughest home match of the season. The Tauranga, New Zealand, native totaled 12 kills, four digs and three blocks in the season-ending loss.

The player of the week honor is Morgan’s fourth of her career by the AVSR, including one in her freshman campaign and two as a sophomore AVCA Honorable Mention All-American. Morgan finishes her junior year with 191 kills, 2.05 kills per set, a .253 hitting percentage and 71 blocks in 24 matches played.

Junior outside hitter Jekaterina Stepanova received a special mention from the AVSR for her performance last weekend. Battling a head cold throughout the week, Stepanova recorded 27 kills, 3.38 kills per set and 20 digs to ignite FSU’s offensive attack. Against Georgia Southern, she played sets 2-4 and finished with 12 kills, a .345 hitting percentage and nine digs.

The Riga, Latvia, native ended the Florida match with 15 kills and 11 digs for her 11th double-double of the season. She earned AVSR Player of the Week honors during her freshman season at Missouri State West-Plains in 2008.

Stepanova finished the season third on FSU with 281 kills and 260 digs in 31 matches played.
