TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Sophomore left-hander Tyler Holton has once again been recognized as the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Pitcher of the Week after a 13 strikeout, no walk performance Saturday against Oakland. He was the co-Pitcher of the Week last Monday after an 11-strikeout game against Samford.
Holton threw six shutout innings and allowed only two hits to the Oakland Golden Grizzlies on Saturday. Holton’s third victory of the season was accompanied by a career-high 13 strikeouts, after he broke his previous record in his last outing when he threw a then career-high 11 strikeouts against Samford.
Holton now tops the Florida State pitching staff with 0.47 ERA (one earned run in 19.0 innings pitched), and his 32 strikeouts lead the ACC so far this season.
Following his last two performances, Holton becomes the first Seminole to strike out ten or more batters in consecutive games since Sean Gilamrtin did so in 2011 against Georgia and Boston College.
The Tallahassee native is the first player to earn ACC Player of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks since Maryland’s Jake Stinnett in 2014.
