Florida State returns to the comfortable surroundings of Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium on Wednesday to face Valdosta State University. It is the Seminoles’ first home date since March 27 and the beginning of a five-game homestand, which will include a three-game weekend series against Atlantic Coast Conference rival North Carolina and a Tuesday, April 12 showdown with Florida. Today’s game marks the first meeting between the Seminoles and Blazers since 1988:

• Florida State leads the all-time series 23-4-1, including a 13-2 record at home and a 10-2-1 mark in Valdosta;
• Five of the last eight meetings between the Seminoles and Blazers have taken place on the Valdosta State campus;
• FSU has won the last seven meetings between the schools and is 8-0-1 over the last nine, dating to a 14-12 loss in the first game of a March 6, 1979 double-header;
• The Seminoles’ longest winning streak over the course of the series is eight games, established between 1975-78. An FSU victory Wednesday will equal that mark;
• Current Florida State coach Mike Martin has a 7-0 lifetime record against Valdosta State.

Redshirt freshman right-hander David Trexler (Lynn Haven, FL) will make his second career start for the Seminoles against VSU. Trexler (0-0, 4.26) will be making his fifth appearance of the season and his first since getting the starting nod against Stetson on March 23, when he worked 3.1 innings, surrendering two runs on five hits in a no-decision.

This Saturday against North Carolina the FSU baseball program will celebrate alumni weekend, which will feature former players, highlighted by those from 1948-59.
