PITCHING SHINES TO OPEN SEASON

Through 13 games, FSU ranks 11th nationally with a 2.08 ERA and leads the country with 13.5 strikeouts per game. FSU’s starting pitchers have thrown 69 innings this season and have a 1.57 earned run average.

The Seminoles have struck out at least 10 batters in 12 of 13 games this year and have struck out at least 15 in five games.

The Seminole bullpen, led by Jonah Scolaro’s 0.00 ERA in 10.1 innings and Cobi Johnson’s 22 strikeouts in 8.2 innings, has a 2.81 ERA in 48 innings with a 79-24 K-to-BB mark.

SANDS DEALING ON THE ROAD

In five road starts in 2017, junior Cole Sands was 3-0 and FSU was 5-0 in Sands’ starts.

Sands had a 4.85 ERA and allowed three or fewer runs in four of his five starts in true road games away from Dick Howser Stadium last year.

Sands had seven strikeouts in three road starts, at the time the most in his career. He threw six innings in wins at Notre Dame and NC State, also career highs at the time.

MARTIN CLOSING IN ON RECORD
Head coach Mike Martin is just 19 wins away from becoming college baseball’s winningest coach. Martin is 1,957-694-4 over 39 seasons at Florida State and trails only Augie Garrido (1,975) in NCAA history. Martin’s .738 career winning percentage is the best among active coaches.
