Baseball Defeats Southwestern Louisiana, 14-4

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Catcher Jeremy Salazar drove in three runs on four hits as he led the No. 10 Florida State (38-12) to a 14-4 win over Southwestern Louisiana (29-15) at Dick Howser Stadium.

Right-hander Nick Stocks (4-1) struck out eight batters and held the Ragin’ Cajuns to one run in eight innings as he earned the win for Florida State. Stocks scattered 10 hits and walked two in the outing.

Right-hander Eric Templet (2-1) surrendered five runs on seven hits in four-plus innings pitched. Templet struck out two and walked one in the loss for the Ragin’ Cajuns.

Southwestern Louisiana jumped out to a 1-0 lead on three hits in the first inning. Designated hitter Justin Hemme doubled and scored on a single to left field by first baseman B.J. Ryan to take an early lead.

The Seminoles tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the second as Salazar singled and scored on a basehit by second baseman Brooks Badeaux. Badeaux belted two hits for the second consecutive game and drove in two runs.

FSU broke the game open with three runs in the fourth inning sparked by a two-run double by shortstop Brett Groves and an RBI-single by first baseman Kevin Cash. Groves drove in three runs on a career-high three hits including his second triple of the season.

The Seminoles led 6-1 entering the eighth inning but scored eight runs to increase their lead to 14-1. FSU used six hits and four walks as they batted around in the inning. Salazar ripped a base-loaded double to drive in three of the runs.

USL scored three runs on two hits and two Badeaux errors in the ninth inning to cut FSU’s 13-run lead to 10.
