TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Right-hander Nick Stocks struck out a
career-high 12 batters as he led No. 1 Florida State (18-3, 2-0 ACC) to
a 2-1 victory over Virginia (8-11, 0-2 ACC) in front of 1,976 fans at
Dick Howser Stadium.
Stocks (6-0) held the Cavaliers to just two hits and an unearned
run in 8 1/3 innings pitched in his sixth win of the season.
Left-hander Mike DiBlasi recorded his fifth save of the season
as he struck out the final two batters of the game.
Left fielder Mike Futrell tripled and scored on a ground ball by
shortstop Brett Groves to tie Virginia at 1-1 in the sixth inning.
Groves then scored the game-winning on a basehit to up the middle by
second baseman Marshall McDougall.
The Cavaliers scored their only run in the third inning as
rightfielder Julian Gonzalez doubled, stole third base and scored on an
error by the third baseman.
The Seminoles will host Virginia for the final game of the
series at 2:00 p.m., tomorrow.
