    The Seminoles:

  • Florida State enters the series with Charleston Southern with a 9-0 record and consensus No. 1 ranking by Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball and Baseball Weekly.

  • The last time FSU held a consensus #1 ranking was the week of Feb. 24, 1997. The Tribe held it for two weeks (Feb. 17 & Feb. 24). FSU started as the preseason favorite in Collegiate Baseball and Baseball Weekly in 1997 as well.

  • RF Matt Diaz garnered ACC Player of the Week honors after batting .700 with eight RBIs and eight runs against Troy State. Diaz recorded three doubles, a triple and a home run in the series.

  • Senior Jeremiah Klosterman celebrated his 22nd birthday on Monday, February 15th.

  • The Seminoles are riding a 13-game home winning streak carried over from last season.

  • FSU is batting .357, has hit 13 home runs while averaging 11.78 runs per game.

  • The Seminole pitching staff has posted a 2.33 ERA and opponents are batting just .192 against FSU. The staff is averaging 10.4 strikeouts per game.

  • FSU fielders are averaging an impressive .977 and have posted seven games with one or no errors. FSU committed just one error in the three-game series against Troy State.

  • Head coach Mike Martin is in his 20th season as the Seminoles skipper, collecting a 1,031-350-3 record over the past 20 years.

    On the Mound:

    LHP Mike Smalley is set to make his first collegiate start on Tuesday. Smalley has pitched one inning thus far this season. RHP Blair Varnes, a regular in the weekend rotation, will pitch Wednesday due to a short two-game series with Florida this weekend. Varnes is fresh off a 17-3 win over Troy State in which he held the Trojans to no runs and one hit in five innings.

    Scouting the Opponent:

    Charleston Southern enters the series with FSU after sweeping Norfolk State last weekend. The Buccaneers are 3-3 and are led by CF Jesse Cochenour (.417, 2 RBI) and 1B Brad French (.400, 1 RBI).

    Series Information:

    Florida State leads the series 9-0 since 1988. RHP Chris Chavez threw a no-hitter in a 13-0 win over CSU last year. It was the Seminoles’ first no-hitter since 1989.
