TALLAHASSEE, FL — Florida State University was selected as one of eight regional host sites for the 1998 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship. The Seminoles will be the host of the Atlantic II Regional beginning Thursday, May 21. The regional will run through Sunday, May 24.
Florida State (45-16), the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season champion, will host an NCAA Regional for the 17th time in its history and for the 13th time in the last 15 years. The Seminoles have hosted 14 times under head coach Mike Martin and have advanced to the College World Series in eight of those seasons.
“This is a great achievement for our team and our athletics administration,” said Martin. “This is a group of guys that really stuck together after a tough first weekend of the season and have really improved. This is one of my two most enjoyable years as a coach.”
“I’m surprised with how far this team has come, but they are not satisfied with where they are,” said Martin. “They still have the ultimate goal of reaching the College World Series. It will be an uphill battle and what we need most is tremendous fan support.”
FSU is one of three NCAA Regionals in the state of Florida. The other sites are as follows:
East Clemson University Atlantic I University of Miami South I University of Florida South II Louisiana State University Midwest Wichita State Central Texas A&M West Stanford University
NCAA Regional pairings will be announced on Monday, May 18th at 3:00 p.m., on ESPN.
Tickets for the Atlantic II Regional will go on sale on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. at the Moore Athletic Center Ticket Office. Tickets books for the tournament are priced at $55 (lower level grandstand), $45 (upper level grandstand) and $35 (general admission).
