TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State’s fifth-ranked baseball team hosts USF (1-2) Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. on Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium. The Seminoles (3-0) swept Xavier last weekend to open the 2018 season, while USF dropped two-of-three to No. 7 North Carolina.

FSU AGAINST USF
FSU leads the all-time series against USF, 70-16. USF won last year’s game 4-2 in Tallahassee. Karp threw seven shutout innings with a career-high (at the time) nine strikeouts. Prior to 2017, FSU had won 15 straight games against the Bulls dating back to 1989.

FSU swept Xavier to open the 2018 season, outscoring the Musketeers 23-4 over three games. FSU’s pitching staff struck out 43 Xavier batters and walked just two and leads the country in strikeout-to-walk ratio and WHIP (0.59). FSU struck out at least one hitter in 26 of 27 innings.
MARTIN CLOSING IN ON RECORD
Head coach Mike Martin is just 29 wins away from becoming college baseball’s winningest coach. Martin is 1,947-694-4 over 39 seasons at Florida State and trails only Augie Garrido (1,975) in NCAA history.
NEWCOMERS CONTRIBUTE EARLY ON
Nine of FSU’s 14 newcomers saw action last weekend, including the first starts for shortstop Mike Salvatore, second baseman Rafael Bournigal, rightfielder Reese Albert and designated hitter Skylar Frey.
Out of the bullpen, freshmen Austin Pollock (4.0 IP, 5 K), Conor Grady (2.0 IP, 5 K) and Jonah Scolaro (1.0 IP, 1 K) did not allow a run.
