The Florida State University Men’s Basketball team was out in full force on Sept. 11 to help raise awareness for Down’s syndrome. The Tallahassee Buddy Walk was one of over 300 Buddy Walks scheduled to take place this year and the Seminoles were happy to be a part of the event.
But the most important part of the day was the walk itself with nearly $55,000 being raised in an event created to celebrate the abilities and accomplishments of those with the disease.
“Participating in the Buddy Walk was a great experience,” said junior guard Luke Loucks. “It is personally very satisfying to help out in our community and to be able to spend time with the kids – many of whom are our fans. As a team we are thankful to be asked to participate in the event and we get a very positive response from all of the people at the event. It is a very pleasant experience and I hope we continue to participate every year.”
The one mile walk, which included a bounce house, games and a dunk tank, took place at the Southwood Town Center. Last year 250,000 people nationwide put their best foot forward to complete the 5280 foot trek.
