Florida State, which has won three consecutive and four of its last five games, plays host to No. 7/7 Syracuse on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Donald L. Tucker Center in Tallahassee. The game is Senior Day for the Seminoles and marks the final regular season home game for four seniors – Robert Gilchrist, Ian Miller, Kiel Turpin and Okaro White – as the Seminoles continue their march to March Madness by playing the Orange to close out their 18-game ACC schedule. Florida State enters Sunday’s game against Syracuse having won each of its last three games with victories coming at Pittsburgh (who has been ranked as high as No. 18 this season), at home against Georgia Tech (who the Seminoles have now beaten in nine consecutive games) and at Boston College (who defeated then No. 1 ranked Syracuse on February 19). The Seminoles have won four of their last five with a victory over Wake Forest (who defeated No. 4 Duke on March 5), a six-point loss to current No. 14/14 North Carolina (a game during which the Seminoles led 21-6 in the first half) and then victories over Pitt, Georgia Tech and Boston College. Following Sunday’s game against Syracuse, the Seminoles will play in the 61st Annual ACC Tournament (March 12-16) in a second round game on Thursday, March 13. The Seminoles’ final place in the 2014 ACC standings will be determined this weekend by the results of the final seven games of the conference schedule.
FLORIDA STATE VS. SYRACUSE – A SERIES HISTORY
Florida State will host Syracuse for the first time at the Donald L. Tucker Center on Senior Day, March 9, closing out the ACC regular season schedule for both teams. This game will mark the first meeting of the two teams since Syracuse joined the ACC. Florida State is 1-3 against Syracuse with its last game coming against the Orange on March 12, 1997 in the first round of the NIT. The Seminoles took an 82-69 win over the Orange – a win that propelled the Seminoles through the event and into the championship finals. The Seminoles’ game against the Orange will mark the second consecutive matchup that the two teams will play each other in the month of March and the first non-postseason game that will be played for that month. Florida State will honor four seniors – Robert Gilchrist, Ian Miller, Kiel Turpin and Okaro White – on Senior Day during Saturday’s game against Syracuse. The four players will play their final regular season home game against the Orange.
FLORIDA STATE SUCCESSFUL ON SENIOR DAY UNDER HAMILTON
Florida State enters Sunday’s Senior Day game against Syracuse having won nine consecutive and 10 of 11 Senior Day games under head coach Leonard Hamilton. The Seminoles began their current Senior Day winning streak with a 68-63 win over Virginia on March 6, 2005 – the senior day for Anthony Richardson and Adam Waleskowski. Florida State defeated No. 1 ranked Duke, 79-74, on March 1, 2006 – the Senior Day for Todd Galloway, Diego Romero and Andrew Wilson.

FLORIDA STATE VS. RANKED TEAMS
Florida State enters Sunday’s game against No. 7/7 Syracuse with 29 wins over nationally ranked teams during the first 12 years of the Leonard Hamilton era in Tallahassee. Florida State defeated then No. 10/10 VCU in the first round of the 2013 Puerto Rico Tip-Off on November 21, 2013 and No. 19/20 UMass in the Orange Bowl Classic on December 21, 2013 earlier this season. Included in those wins are six wins over nationally ranked Duke teams including two when the Blue Devils were ranked No. 1 in the country at the time (March 1, 2006, 79-74 and Jan. 12, 2011, 66-61). Florida State has defeated four top five and six top 10 ranked Duke teams under Hamilton.
FLORIDA STATE AGAINST THE ACC’S NEWCOMERS
Florida State is undefeated against the ACC’s newest teams (2-0 against Notre Dame and Pitt) with Sunday’s game remaining against Syracuse (March 9). The Seminoles are the only team in the ACC with the opportunity to finish the 2013-14 season undefeated against the newest entries into the top league in college basketball history.
Florida State enters Sunday’s game against No. 7/7 Syracuse having won three straight and four of their last five games since a 67-60 victory over Wake Forest on February 15. In becoming the third winningest program in the ACC since the 2005-06 season, the Seminoles have made quite a habit of winning games late in the season and putting themselves into solid positions for strong finishes and postseason appearances. The Seminoles have played in four of the last five NCAA Tournaments and have made a school record eight consecutive postseason appearances.
SEMINOLES SOLIDIFY ACC FIELD GOAL SHOOTING PERCENTAGE LEAD
Florida State, which has shot 50 percent or better in 13 of its 29 games this season, enters Sunday’s game against No. 7/7 Syracuse as the leaders in field goal shooting percentage in the ACC. The Seminoles are shooting .468 from the field and are looking to lead the ACC in field goal shooting percentage for the first time since joining the league for the 1991-92 season. The Seminoles have shot 50 percent or better from the field 13 times and are 10-3 when making at least half of their shots in a game. Florida State shot an incredible .765 from the field and outscored Boston College 41-37 in the second half to gain the road win. The Seminoles made 13 of 17 shots in that second half – they made eight of the final 10 field goal attempts of the game.
