Basketball Plays Host To Southeastern Thursday At 7:00 p.m.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (seminoles.com) –  On the eve of its first preseason exhibition game of the year against Southeastern University, the Florida State men’s basketball team was predicted to finish eighth in the league standings and sophomore guard Dwayne Bacon was a preseason All-ACC Second-Team selection according to a vote of media at the league’s 55th Annual Operation Basketball media outing at the Omni Charlotte Hotel.

Duke enters the 2016-17 season as the ACC favorite.  The Blue Devils, who return junior All-America guard Grayson Allen and senior starting guard Matt Jones from last year’s team that finished 25-11 and earned the program’s 21st consecutive NCAA Tournament berth, received 85 of 91 first-place votes in the preseason poll released Wednesday.

Defending ACC champion North Carolina (six first-place votes) finished second in the voting, followed by Virginia, Louisville and Syracuse. The ACC preseason voters selected NC State sixth, followed by Notre Dame, Florida State and Miami. Virginia Tech was picked 10th, while Clemson, Pitt, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech and Boston College rounded out the voting.

Bacon, who became the first freshman in Florida State history to lead the Seminoles in scoring and rebounding in 2016, was one of 10 players in the nation’s most complete conference to earn preseason All-ACC Honors.  In addition, Jonathan Isaac was one of seven players who earned votes as the preseason ACC Rookie of the Year.

Florida State opens it two-game exhibition series on Thursday night against Southeastern University at 7:00 inside the Donald L. Tucker in Tallahassee.  Parking and admission to the game are both free.

Thursday’s game marks the third time in the last four seasons the Seminoles and the Fire will meet in the preseason.  The Seminoles are 2-0 in preseason play against Southeastern with a 117-76 win over the Fire last season and a 112-74 victory in 2013.

Southeastern was picked to finish fourth in The Sun Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll, and is receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25.

Florida State will play host to Valdosta State on Nov. 3 in their second exhibition game – a game which is annually played with all of the proceeds going to the Aubrey Boyd Foundation.  The Seminoles open their regular season as they play host to Charleston Southern on Nov. 12 at 1:00 p.m.
