GULF SHORES, Ala. – Florida State’s quest for its first national title in the NCAA’s newest championship sport will get underway on Friday at 10 a.m. CT in Gulf Shores, Ala. as the fourth-seeded Seminoles battle the fifth-seeded Rainbow Wahine.The winner of Florida State vs. Hawaii will advance to the 3 p.m. CT match against the winner of No. 1 USC and No. 8 South Carolina, while the loser will face the loser of the Trojans and Gamecocks at 1 p.m. CT.
The Seminoles earned a bid into the eight-team, double-elimination NCAA tournament for the second straight year as they captured the CCSA Conference Championship two weeks ago.
Florida State went 3-2 in last year’s tournament and finished as runner-ups as the Noles lost to Southern California in the finals.
This will be the second time this season that the Seminoles will be taking on the SandBows. Florida State handed Hawaii its first loss of the season this year as the Noles defeated the Rainbow Wahine 3-2 in Honolulu, Hawaii on March 17. The Garnet and Gold took on Hawaii last postseason, winning 3-2 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Florida State enters play in Gulf Shores, Ala. coming of a CCSA Tournament win on April 23. FSU has won nine of its last ten matches this season and is 17-5 on neutral sand heading into NCAA’s.
Every match of the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship will be streamed live on NCAA.com. The afternoon matches on Friday beginning at 2 p.m. ET and four matches on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. ET will all air live on truTV. The championship final on Sunday will be broadcast live on TBS beginning at 2 p.m. ET.
