Beers And Mosley Lead Seminole Men’s Golf Team At Hitchcock Intercollegiate

April 11, 2004

OPELIKA, Ala. –
Florida State juniors Alan Beers and Rusty Mosley finished tied for 15th in the individual standings and the Seminole men’s golf team finished sixth in the final standings at the Billy Hitchcock Intercollegiate at Saugahatchee Country Club. The Seminoles carded two of their top six team single round scores of the season and earned seven scores of par or better by the five individual golfers competing for Florida State during the event. Three of the five golfers playing for the Seminoles scored 72 or better during Sunday’s final round.

Beers (Warner Robins, Ga.) and Mosley (Vidalia, Ga.) led the Seminoles with identical scores of 218. The 218 total is a personal 54-hole tournament career best for Beers and marks the third time this spring Mosley has finished with a tournament score of 218 or better. Beers’ previous career best was a 219 total at both the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate during the fall of 2001 and the Gary Koch Intercollegiate during the spring of 2002. Mosley, who carded a career-best 67 in Friday’s first round, finished at two over par or better for the second consecutive event. He carded a one-under par 215 at last week’s Atlanta Intercollegiate.

The finish was the best of Beers’ career and marked the fourth top-20 finish of the spring season for Mosley.

Junior Matt Adcock (Apopka, Fla.) led the Seminoles in the third round with a spring season-best score of two under par 70. He finished in a tie for 23rd place after beginning the second round in a tie for 37th place. Adcock shot an even par 144 over the final two rounds of the event. Freshman Bradley Ruch (Louisville, Ken.) and junior Mark Sestilio (Punta Gorda, Fla.) also played for Florida State in the event and finished in a tie for 44th place and a tied for 48th place, respectively.

Auburn, the host school, won the team championship with a five-under par score of 859 and defeated Jacksonville State by five strokes. Nick Mackay of Jacksonville State shot a three-under par 69 and finished with a 209 total to claim individual medalist honors. He defeated Auburn’s Jonathan Dismuke by two strokes.

The Seminoles continue their spring season as they compete in the 51st annual Atlantic Coast Conference Championship at the Old North State Club in Uwharrie Point, N.C. beginning Friday.
