DADE CITY, Fla. – The No. 16 Florida State men’s golf team moved up two spots to third place after the second round of the USF Invitational. The Seminoles had a two-under 286 Monday, March 4, for a two-day total 3-over 579 at the Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club. Florida State is nine strokes behind second place South Carolina and 12 behind first place NC State. The team tees off at 9:40 a.m. tomorrow morning to finish the tournament.
“I am proud of the composure the team showed today,” said head coach Trey Jones. “We made some bad swings early on but kept fighting and played a very good back nine. We need for all five players to contribute tomorrow.”
Sophomore Daniel Berger had a four stroke improvement today marked by an eagle on hole No. 3 and four birdies on the back nine for a 5-under 67. The Jupiter, Fla., native has a two round 6-under 138 heading into tomorrow. Berger is in second place after today, two strokes behind first.
Senior Doug Letson was 3-over on the front nine and made up for it with four birdies on the back nine. The Tampa, Fla., native posted a round two even par for a two-day total of 1-over 145 and is tied for 14th. Freshman Hank Lebioda is continuing his solid play with an even par 72 today. The Winter Springs, Fla., native is tied for 18th with a 2-over 146 over two days.
Senior Chase Seiffert turned in another 3-over 75 today while carding six birdies. Seiffert has a two round total of a 6-over 150 and is tied for 37th. Freshman Rowin Caron posted a 9-over 81 and is currently tied for 79th with a 14-over 158.
Freshman Collin Engelhardt currently has a 13-over 157 and is tied in 72nd after a 7-over 79 in the second round as he plays as an individual.
The Seminoles are part of a 17-team field with Cincinnati, DePaul, Eastern Michigan, Kennesaw State, Kentucky, Louisville, Marquette, Mercer, Middle Tennessee State, North Carolina State, Rice, South Carolina, South Florida, Troy, Virginia and Wisconsin.
