Berger Leads Seminoles After First Round At Olympia

OLYMPIA, Ill. – After the first day of the Olympia Fields/Illini Invitational, the Florida State men’s golf team is tied for fifth with a 13-over 293 score. Sophomore Daniel Berger is in a tie for second to lead the Seminoles while senior Doug Letson is tied for ninth. The Seminoles return to the Olympia Fields Country Club South Course Monday at 8:40 a.m. on the front nine. The tournament is a three day, 54 hole event on a 7,080-yard par 70 course.

Berger (Jupiter, Fla.) is leading the field with five birdies through the first round. He sits at an even 70 and is two strokes away from first. Letson (Tampa, Fla.) started the day 2-over on the back nine but an even par front nine kept him at a 2-over 72 score.

Third for the Seminoles is junior Bjorn Hellgren (Vasteras, Sweden) who posted 12 pars en route to a 4-over 74 and is tied for 28th. Senior Chase Seiffert (Panama City, Fla.) and freshman Hank Lebioda (Winter Springs, Fla.) both carded 7-over 77s on Sunday. Seiffert had 12 pars while Lebioda posted 10.

The Seminoles are part of a 14 team field including No. 2 SMU, No. 4 Florida, No. 13 Northwestern, No. 18 Illinois, No. 19 Clemson, No. 25 Indiana, Arkansas, Auburn, Augusta State, Duke, Oklahoma State, Purdue and Stanford.
