TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Although the season has ended for Florida State, the awards and honors keep on coming in for the men’s golf team this summer. Golfweek released its All-American teams with both Daniel Berger and Chase Seiffert named.

Berger, a sophomore, was named to the first team after finishing tied for second at the NCAA Championships and ranked No. 7 in the nation by Golfweek. Seiffert, a senior, was named as an honorable mention and finished the season ranked No. 32 in the nation.

“To have two guys make All-American and another be awarded ACC freshman of the year is a testament to how good this season was for our golf program,” said head coach Trey Jones. “Daniel showed up to compete every tournament. When he played well he won and when he didn’t play well, he still finished in the top 15. That’s what you have to do to make first team All-America.

“Chase was playing as well as anyone at the end of the year,” continued Jones. “He is also someone who learned this spring how to finish in the top 15 when he didn’t have all aspects of his game clicking. We will definitely miss him next year.”

After being named to the Palmer Cup team in April, the tournament took place at the Wilmington Country Club in Wilmington, Delaware. The tournament ran from June 7 and concluded on June 9 with the United State defeating Europe 20.5-9.5.

“Being part of such a great group of guys representing your country is the best feeling in the world,” said Berger. “I had the oppurtunity to play against some great European players. I loved the challenge.”

In the Four-Ball Matches on Saturday morning, Berger teamed up with James Erkenbeck to defeat Scott Fernandez and Pedro Figueiredo 4 and 3 after birdies on Nos. 3 and 4 to take a 2-up lead and pushed their advantage to 5-up with three-straight birdies from Nos. 9-11.

On Saturday afternoon in the second round singles, Berger picked up the fourth-straight American win by defeating Ben Taylor, 2 and 1. Berger claimed the first two holes and pushed his lead to 3-up after a birdie at the fifth.

“This was a goal of Daniel’s all year,” continued Jones. “He loves to compete and the team match play suits his personality perfectly. He represented us well.”

Seiffert played in his first professional golf tournament this past weekend at the FedEx St. Jude Classic and missed the cut by one stroke after two rounds of play. In the first round, he finished his first nine holes 2-under before struggling with four bogeys to finish the day with a 1-over 71. He highlighted the second round with an eagle on the third hole. He posted a 1-over 71 in the second round as well.

“The tournament was a great experience and a great place to start my career,” said Seiffert. “Starting at the best tour and realizing that I can play with these guys consistently has and will help me a lot mentally.”

“Every one of our players have plans and dreams of playing on the PGA or European Tour,” finished Jones. “While this was a great opportunity and learning experience for Chase, I expected him to compete and play well.”
