Bill Cappleman, rewrote the Florida State record book over his career from 1967-69 claiming all career and season passing records. “Cap” threw 42 touchdown passes and completed 349 of 639 passes for 5,135 yards. His single season records included: 25 touchdown passes, 2,467 passing yards, 2,342 total offense yards, 344 passes and 183 completions. Against Memphis State in 1969, the brilliant signal caller threw for 508 yards. Perhaps Cappleman’s greatest game was a 40-20 victory over powerful Houston in 1968. He was unstoppable and his performance won him designation as Sport Illustrated national back of the week. Cappleman was chosen All-Southeastern Independent and honorable mention All-American. In 1969 he was named Florida’s finest football player.
