Blixt And Smith Leads Seminole Men’s Golf Team To Top-10 Finish At The Ridges Intercollegiate

Oct. 16, 2005

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. –
Jonas Blixt and Nicholas Smith finished in a tie for 22nd place and the Florida State men’s golf team wrapped up their fall season with a 10th place finish at the Bank of Tennessee at the Ridges Intercollegiate at the Ridge Golf and Country Club. Florida State finished as the third ranked ACC team in the event ahead of Wake Forest and Virginia. The event closed out the fall season for the Seminoles – a season that saw the team earn four top-10 finishes in four outings.

South Carolina, which led the event during the final two rounds, won the team title going away. The finish marked the Gamecocks’ best finish in The Ridges Intercollegiate since finishing second in 2000. Rhys Davis of East Tennessee State, the tournament’s host team, easily won the individual title with a near-record three-round total of 205. He missed tying the tournament record of 204 by a mere one stroke.

Blixt (Hammaro, Sweden) and Smith (Belleview, Fla.) led the Seminoles with 54-hole scores of 221 as the two players finished in a tie for 22nd place. Blixt led Florida State in the final round with a two-over par score of 74. He finished the event as the only Seminole to card three scores of 75 or below. Smith earned the second top-25 finish of his Seminole career – he finished in a career-best tied for 18th place at the season opening Tennessee Tournament of Champions.

Junior Torstein Nevestad (Oslo, Norway) finished in a tie for 43rd place as he averaged 75.00 strokes in the three-round event. He played his best golf during the second round when he carded a two-over par 74. Freshman Matt Savage (Louisville, Ky.) finished in a tie for 59th place with a 227 total – and average of just under 76.00 strokes for the tournament. He, too, played his best golf of the event in the second round as he turned in a one-over par score of 73. Junior Bradley Ruch also competed for the Seminoles and played well with a one-over par 73 over the course of the first 18 holes.

Blixt led the Seminoles in a number of different categories during the fall season including stroke average (73.00) and scores at par or better (six). He carded one-half of his rounds during the season (six of 12) at par or better. Nevestad led the team with 11 of his 12 rounds with scores at 75 or better. Blixt, Nevestad and freshman Nicholas Smith were the only Seminoles who played in all three events during the fall season.
