Blixt Moves Up In Isleworth Individual Standings After Second Round

WINDERMERE, Fla. –
Florida State junior golfer Jonas Blixt shot a second consecutive round of 73 and moved into a tie for 12th place in the individual standing and the Seminole men’s golf team held their position at 10th place in the team standings as play in the second round of the Third Annual Isleworth-UCF Invitational finished on Monday at the Isleworth Golf & Country Club. Blixt began the day in a tie for 19th place and moved up seven positions in the individual standings.

Texas fired a second-round 285 (-3) in the second round to take a one-shot lead in the team standings. Trailing first-round leader Georgia by three strokes entering the day, the Longhorns moved from a tie for fourth to the top of the leaderboard behind the strong play of junior Kevin Schultz, who carded a 68 (-4) to help give Texas a two-day total of 579 (+3). Fellow Big XII member Oklahoma State finished the day in second place, trailing the Longhorns by a stroke after the Cowboys carded a 286 (-2). Oklahoma State was among the trio of schools tied for fourth after round one. Florida sophomore Toby Ragland held onto his overall lead in the individual standings following his second-consecutive round below par.

Blixt (Hammaro, Sweden) has carded consecutive rounds of 73 and has a two-day total of 146. Blixt started his day on the 10th hole and finished one over on his first nine. He recovered to finish at even par over his second nine and finish with a one-over par total of 73. Blixt recorded 14 holes of par or better during the round. He enters the final round playing to earn his third consecutive top-five finish; he is only three strokes out of the top five and only six strokes behind Ragland – the overall individual leader.

Sophomore Matt Savage (Louisville, Ky.) earned the Seminoles’ second biggest stroke improvement (72 from a 77) and biggest jump in the standings (tied for 36th from tied for 55th) in the second round. The second-year player recorded six birdies during his second best-round of the fall season. Savage saved his day after finishing his first nine holes of the day at four-over par before finishing his final nine holes at four under.

Freshman Cameron Knight (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) earned the biggest stroke improvement for the Seminoles as she shot a two-over par 74 in round two after scoring an 81 in the first round. He totaled five birdies in the second round as compared to only two in the first round. Freshman Seath Lauer (Huntington, Ind.) and sophomore Nicholas Smith (Ocala, Fla.) carded identical scores of 78.

The Seminoles, who are only four strokes out of fifth place, begin play in the third and final round of the event Tuesday morning. The event is the final tournament of the fall seasons for the Seminoles.
